- મનિકા બત્રા ( Manika Batra )એ ટેબલ ટેનિસ વિમેન્સ સિંગલ્સમાં ક્વાર્ટર ફાઇનલમાં જગ્યા બનાવી લીધી છે.
- મનિકાએ ફ્રાન્સની પ્રિતિકા પાવડને સીધા સેટમાં હરાવીને અંતિમ 16માં જગ્યા બનાવી લીધી ( Secure spot ) છે.
- છેલ્લા 32 રાઉન્ડમાં મનિકાનો સામનો યજમાન ફ્રાન્સ સામે થયો હતો.
- મનિકાએ આ મેચ સતત 4-0થી જીતી હતી. તેણે 11-9, 11-6, 11-9, 11-7થી મેચ જીતી હતી.
- ઈતિહાસમાં આવું પહેલીવાર બન્યું છે જ્યારે કોઈ ભારતીય મહિલા ખેલાડી ઓલિમ્પિકની ક્વાર્ટર ફાઇનલમાં પહોંચી હોય. મનિકાના શાનદાર પ્રદર્શનથી તેની મેડલની આશા વધી ગઈ છે.
