હિમાચલ પ્રદેશમાં હવે 21 વર્ષની ઉંમર પહેલા છોકરી સાથે લગ્ન કરવા અથવા તેના લગ્ન કરાવવા ગુનો ગણાશે.

હિમાચલ પ્રદેશ દેશનું પહેલું રાજ્ય બની ગયું છે, જ્યાં છોકરીઓના લગ્નની કાયદેસર ઉંમર વધારવામાં આવી છે.

દેશમાં 2006થી બાળ લગ્ન વિરુદ્ધ કાયદો છે. આ અંતર્ગત 18 વર્ષ કે તેથી વધુ ઉંમરની કોઈપણ વ્યક્તિને પુખ્ત ગણવામાં આવી હતી.

રાજ્યપાલની મંજૂરી પછી આ કાયદો રાજ્યના તમામ વતનીઓને લાગુ પડશે, જેમાં કોઈપણ ધર્મ સંપ્રદાયને છુટ નથી.

हमने अपने आस-पास देखा है कि बेटियों की शादी जल्दी करने से कई परेशानियाँ आती हैं। ईश्वर न करे कि कभी किसी भी बेटी को परेशानी का सामना करना पड़े। इसलिए हमने निर्णय किया है कि बेटी की शादी अब 18 वर्ष में नहीं, बल्कि 21 वर्ष में होगी।
