PM મોદીએ લખ્યું: “ધર્મેન્દ્રજી પોતાની સાદગી, વિનમ્રતા અને પ્રેમ માટે જાણીતા હતા. આ દુઃખની ઘડીમાં મારી પ્રાર્થનાઓ તેમના પરિવાર, મિત્રો અને અનગિનત ચાહકો સાથે છે. ઓમ શાંતિ.”ધર્મેન્દ્રનો જન્મ 8 ડિસેમ્બર 1935એ પંજાબના સાહનેવાલ ગામમાં થયો હતો. 65 વર્ષના કરિયરમાં તેમણે 300થી વધુ ફિલ્મોમાં કામ કર્યું અને ‘હી-મેન’ તરીકે લોકપ્રિય થયા. 1960માં ‘દિલ ભી તેરા, હમ ભી તેરે’થી ડેબ્યુ કર્યું. તેઓ 2004થી 2009 સુધી BJPના લોકસભા સાંસદ પણ રહ્યા.

ધર્મેન્દ્ર પોતાના પાછળ બે પત્ની અને છ બાળકોનો પરિવાર છોડી ગયા છે. છેલ્લા કેટલાક સમયથી તેઓ મુંબઈના હોસ્પિટલમાં સારવાર હેઠળ હતા. પરિવારએ આ મહિનાની શરૂઆતમાં ઘર પર જ સારવાર ચાલુ રાખવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો હતો.
